ProTernative™ Continuous Fed Formula (Saccharomyces cerevisiae 1077)
ProTernative Continuous Fed Formula is a rumen-specific, live yeast that maintains its viability in the rumen. SC 1077 was selected from over 1000 strains of live yeast. It was granted permanent approval by the European Commission because of its efficacy, stability, safety and unique genetic characteristics.
ProTernative CF is a valuable alternative if you are feeding cattle for a natural or organic branded beef program. If your branded program does not allow ionophores or implants you may face a number of challenges including:
- Increased incidence of acidosis and bloat
- Greater variance in feed intake
- Poorer feed conversion
- Decreased dry matter intake
- Decreased average daily gain
In a feedlot performance study conducted by Eng, Hutcheson and Bechtel, cattle fed ProTernative Continuous Fed Formula performed as well as the cattle fed Rumensin and Tylan. This is important for producers in natural beef programs that do not allow any antibiotics in the ration.
ProTernative Continuous Fed Formula is available in two convenient sizes:
5 Kg (12,500 head days) and 20 Kg (50,000 head days). It is also available as a beef premix in 50 lb bags and in micro-encapsulated form for pelleted feeds.
